Peg Mendell

Guided by her firm belief that education is fundamental in helping create opportunities for success, Peg dedicated herself to opening doors for those in her community. From creating the first & only lending library in Smoke Rise in the early 1950's, to her commitment to quality public school education for all and her 'retirement' of teaching English to the local immigrant community, Peg worked tirelessly to help others.  The fruits of her work will have a positive impact on many generations to come, and her legacy will live on in those blessed to have known her.

To ensure your generosity and support are acknowledged - and to help protect you from future solicitations - the Mendell Family has requested that memorial contributions be made through IN MEMORY OF to the following

Reading is fundamental

In 1966, RIF founder Margaret McNamara had a simple yet innovative idea - deliver new, free books to children who might not otherwise have any to call their own. Since then, the organization has continued its mission to help transform literacy in America by inspiring children to read and to give them the fundamentals to read and succeed. To date, in partnership with a grassroots network of more than 1 million RIF volunteers and programs in schools and communities nationwide, RIF has given away more than 412 million books to more than 40 million children in need.

St. David's Episcopal Church

Peg and André were not only co-founders of St. David's but held active roles until their move from the community in 1986.  From designing and creating the altar linens to serving as Altar Guild President, Peg dedicated her compassion and generosity to the ideals of the church and community it served.

A memorial contribution would be both a living tribute to Peg's memory and effort in creating this religious and spiritual community and help St. David's continue its mission of helping those in need through its extensive outreach programs.
