Spencer Kohler Reed

A gifted athlete and charismatic leader, Spencer was equally balanced in humility and generosity, going out of his way to help others and demonstrating his commitment as a true friend.

He was taken too soon and will be forever remembered as son, grandson, brother, nephew, teammate and friend.

Friends of the National Zoo - FONZ

The Friends of the National Zoo is the nonprofit partner of the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute that helps the Zoo save species by raising funds to support their mission, providing educational and fun experiences, and inspiring their members and guests.  Contributions support the Zoo's work in animal care, research, education, and conservation.

Spencer grew up around Washington, DC and the sea lion exhibit at the National Zoo was his favorite. When he returned to the area to attend Catholic University, he would often go back to the zoo to 'check on his seals.'

Contributions in his memory will be used to purchase a memorial bench to be placed in the viewing area, where Spencer will always be free to swim, play and be with his seals.
